Students of the Month - December

It's that time of the month where we look back at the successes of our lovely students! Ready on to hear about what makes Omar and Lorena our students of the month from December.

Lorena is from a tiny village near Bern, in the German speaking part of Switzerland, where before coming to Bristol she worked as a graphic designer.  She is learning English because she wanted to improve her level in the language and she has always wanted to take some time out from normal life and have a ‘gap year’.

Bristol was recommended to Lorena because of all the opportunities provides for young people.  She loves the graffiti and the pubs here, and appreciates that it is not as big as London but still has a lot going on.  Lorena likes IH Bristol because of the close-knit, friendly atmosphere, and because she feels that the teachers want the best for their students and encourage them to progress as much as possible.

We chose Lorena as Student of the Month because of her positive and friendly presence in lessons and around the school, because of the progress she has made while she has been here, and because she is an enthusiastic and valued member of the school community.  Well done Lorena!

Omar is from Salalah, a big green city close to the mountains in Oman. He is studying English because in a few months he wants to take the IELTS exam to go to Bristol University for a course in cybersecurity.

He chose to come to Bristol because his uncle studied here previously and recommended Bristol as the best city in the UK!  Omar says that he likes Bristol because it is so beautiful and that everyone is friendly here. He reserved special praise for his host family, saying that he feels like he has two mums now!

Omar thinks IH Bristol is like a family because all the teachers and students know each other, and that he especially likes that the teachers are willing to help him all the time. All the teachers want him to benefit from learning here as much as possible.

The teachers chose Omar because his consistent efforts and hard work in the classroom have led to really good progress in his English level. He brings a very positive attitude and a friendly smile to every lesson. Congratulations Omar!
