Hi, I am Mireya, one of the Spanish teachers in IH. I was born in Barcelona and I am bilingual in Spanish and Catalan. I hold a Bachelor Degree in Hispanic Studies, from the University of Barcelona with a Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish and Catalan as a Second Language, from the University of Girona. I also took an examiners certification course for DELE: levels B1-B2, at Instituto Cervantes.
I taught my language in Spain for 3 years before moving to Bristol last year. Aware of the importance of being multilingual, and following my belief that learning a language is not only to speak it but also being immersed in its culture, I decided to start a new life in Bristol, an awoken city even in the greyest winter thanks to its cultural events and festivals.
In class, I always try to adapt my lessons to my students’ needs and learning abilities. I teach in a practical and clear way and I utilize videos and music to demonstrate various forms of the Spanish culture and use of language in fun and relevant ways.
In my spare time, I like learning about difficulties and problems that people have to communicate to each other, and I would like in the near future to study Speech Therapy. Besides linguistics, I am keen on reading and cooking to escape the world around me, but I also like going out and meet new people.
