English Summer Courses for junior students

Young students learning English on our Junior Summer CourseIf you are between the ages of 12 and 15 years, our Junior Courses held every summer are perfect for you to improve your English, make friends and have fun. Junior English courses usually run from late June to the end of August every year.

Introduction

On our Junior Summer Courses students study a varied programme of English lessons, which cover grammar, vocabulary, phrases and skills that are relevant to your level. There is a strong emphasis on making the lessons in English fun and covering lively relevant topics such as popular music and fashion. At all levels, you will learn real language that you can use in real conversation with other students and with English speakers outside the school.

You can join our Junior Summer Classes from late June to late August every year. As a Junior student, you will study in mixed-nationality, junior-only groups at one of our summer school centres. You can also join one of our Specialist English Courses in Video Making, Drama or Journalism in the afternoon.

English summer classes for teens

Our English Classes for Teens, held over the summer, offer the best possible combination for teenage learners: excellent classroom teaching, friendly enjoyable classes, a good mixture of nationalities and a fantastic social programme of afternoon and evening activities.

A teacher explains a key concept to teens on our English Summer CourseYour English classes are from 9.30 to 1.00 every morning. You will learn from our own specially written study booklets that are designed specifically for teenagers. Every lesson covers a different topic so you can be sure we will include many different areas in a two-week or three-week programme. Classes are normally limited to a maximum of 15 teenage students.

Your lessons will include games, songs and review of earlier English language lessons in the week. Our Project 100 poster in every classroom guarantees that every group will learn at least 100 new words and phrases every week.

Every two weeks, each group chooses an English song that they like, learns, studies and practises it and then performs the song in our Friday-afternoon talent show. This is a good way to find out more about your fellow teenage students' favourite music and artists.

Residential study centre

In 2010 / 2011, our summer English classes for Juniors are at Wesley College. Wesley College is about 3 km from the centre of Bristol in a quiet, safe area near to a large public park.

There is also accommodation at Wesley College for some of our students in comfortable shared or single study-bedrooms. Other students stay with host families in the nearby area. Students staying at the college get their meals in the Wesley College restaurant, which is also a popular public restaurant where you can get both hot and cold meals with more than one choice at every meal.

The classrooms are in two main buildings and there is also a hall with a table-tennis table, video projector and musical instruments. Every classroom has comfortable seating, a whiteboard and movable furniture so class groups can be constantly varied. One classroom also has computers with Internet access so you can stay in touch with your family and friends.

Outside the college buildings is a large area of grass where students can relax, meet other students and play games. There is also a football (soccer) pitch in the Wesley College grounds where afternoon football games are held every week.

If numbers are high we may run English classes for juniors or teens at another school nearer to the centre of Bristol.

Fun social programme

Recent junior students enjoying a tour of BristolOn our junior social programme you will get a varied selection of afternoon activities every day and evening events like discos, karaoke, skating, circus skills or bowling.

Every Wednesday, we have an afternoon excursion to places of interest such as Weston Super-Mare Beach, Bristol Zoo or the City of Bath. On some afternoon excursions you get a quiz, which gives you a chance to use your knowledge of English together with other students in a friendly competitive atmosphere.

On Saturdays and some Sundays, there are whole-day trips to London, Cardiff, Oxford, Birmingham and exciting local destinations like Wells or Cheddar. Most excursions include a guided tour by the accompanying teachers and visits to places of interest in the city or town being visited.

All of these social opportunities will give you the chance to practise the English you will learn whilst you are with us on our summer course.
