Accommodation
We have a number of accommodation options to suit different lifestyles and budgets. Most are within easy reach of the school - a 40 minute walk at most.
- Homestay accommodation - Most of our students prefer to live in a homestay with a host family, sharing in family meals, British family life and experiencing English culture first hand.
- Summer residence - Throughout the year, but especially in the summer season, we have residential accommodation both in Bristol and at Wesley College where our junior courses take place
- Student hostel - If you intend to stay six months or longer in Bristol, you may prefer to live in a student hostel where you have your own room and cook meals for yourself.
- Our accommodation officer - Our accommodation officer is always on hand to help you find the best kind of accommodation for your needs and to sort out any issues that may arise.
Homestay accommodation
Most of our students prefer to stay in homestay accommodation with a British host family. This means that you can share family meals and experience British culture at first hand.
Our homestay hosts are families, couples and single people. We have chosen them for you because they have clean, comfortable homes near the school, and they offer a friendly welcome to our students. We want you to feel like you are one of the family. This is a great way to help you practise your English naturally and to discover real English culture.
We visit all our all our host families regularly to make sure that the accommodation that they offer is of the highest standard so you will feel comfortable and at home.
When you arrive your host will show you how to get to school on the first morning. Most hosts live within 20-30 minutes of the school on foot or by using public transport.
Most homestay families provide two meals a day, included in the price of your accommodation. You will have a private bedroom with somewhere to put your clothes, and a table to work at. Every day you can eat with members of the host family at breakfast and in the evening, and you can have all meals together at week-ends. We never put two students who speak the same language in the same home, so you will have plenty of opportunity to practise your English and get to know more about the English way of life.
In a few cases, self-catering homestay accommodation is available where you live with a family but buy and cook all your food for yourself. This is a little cheaper.
Summer residence
During the summer programme, full-board accommodation is available at our summer residence. Here you will get breakfast, lunch and an evening meal cooked for you so you don't have to worry about finding food at any time.
The residence is only about five minutes' walk away from the school so it is easy to get back there for your midday meal during the one-hour lunch break.
For junior students, the residence is in the buildings of Wesely College where you will also study and you can be sure that the quality of food and accommodation is very high.
Student hostel
If you are intending to study with International House Bristol for 6 months or more, you may prefer to stay in a self-catering student hostel near the school.
Here, you have your own room and use of a kitchen where you can cook all your own meals for yourself. Many long-term students prefer this because it works out much cheaper and gives them the freedom to come and go as they please.
Our accommodation officer
Hi, my name is Liz and I am the Accommodation Officer here at International House Bristol. I deal mainly with the host families and it is my job to ensure that you, our students, have an extremely positive and beneficial experience during your stay with your host family. I will always do my best to meet all your requirements and will try to place you as close to the school as possible; either walking distance or a simple bus ride away.
Our host should treat you like a member of their own family and do their best to ensure you are comfortable and happy in their home. Remember: I want you to have a great time and during your stay I will always be available should you need to talk about your accommodation or any other matters.
